New Life from the Old
Shipwrecked is a place where new life springs from the wreckage — a name, a friendship, and a home built from what the ocean gave back.
Built on Friendship
Every shipwreck is an ending — and a beginning. Timbers that once sailed the open ocean wash ashore and become something new. That's the spirit this place is built on: new life springing from the old. Our restaurant is crafted entirely from the wood of a decommissioned fishing boat, and our name honours the beach bar where it all began.
Shipwrecked is built on a friendship that goes back more than a decade. Matt and Bobby met in the days of the formerly named Shipwreck Bar. Bobby — local legend, entrepreneur and surfer. Matt — surfer, traveller, sports physiologist and outdoor educator. Out of their shared vision and passion they built Shipwrecked Lombok: a place where people come together to Explore, Play and Connect.

From Dream to Reality
The Kuta Beach-Boys
Bobby learnt to surf as a kid on the shores of Kuta, selling coconuts and pineapple on the beach. Australian surfers befriended him and lent him their boards while they rested on the sand — and he was hooked for life.
Three Hours, One Board
Bobby and his friends would walk three hours from their village with a single surfboard, gifted by an Aussie traveller, and share waves all day before the long walk home. The Kuta beach-boys were born.
The Shipwreck Bar
In 2013, Matt landed in Lombok and learnt to surf on these very waves. At a beach bar called Shipwreck, he met Bobby — and a friendship kicked off that would change both their lives.
Losing It All
Bobby went on to build and run his own surf school and restaurant — until it was demolished to make way for a new development. Out of that loss came a vision: build something that could never be taken away.
Building Shipwrecked
Together, Matt and Bobby built Shipwrecked — a culture that brings the best of Australia together with the best of Indonesia. More than a camp: a community of surfers, seekers, and soul-searchers from every corner of the world.

The Vision
Play and connection are at the heart of Sasak culture, and outdoor adventure runs in Bobby's and Matt's veins. Our vision is world-class outdoor adventure, coupled with health and well-being, while sharing the magic of Lombok and its people. It's no surprise Shipwrecked is one of those places that keeps people coming back.
Sharing the spirit of adventure — and rekindling a love for life.
